Profile Pangandaran

Pangandaran, known as Indonesia's surfing capital, boasts waves ideal for surfers of all levels, from beginners to professionals, and attracts many international tourists. The beach is often referred to as "The Little Bali" of West Java and hosts numerous surfing competitions.

Pangandaran Regency was established based on Law Number 21 of 2012 concerning the Establishment of Pangandaran Regency in West Java Province. The law states that Pangandaran Regency originated from part of Ciamis Regency, which consists of: Parigi District, Cijulang District, Cimerak District, Cigugur District, Langkaplancar District, Mangunjaya District, Padaherang District, Kalipucang District, Pangandaran District and Sidamulih District. The capital of Pangandaran Regency is located in Parigi District.

With great potential in the tourism sector, the mission of Pangandaran Regency is "Pangandaran Regency in 2025 will become a world-class tourism district, a safe and comfortable place to live based on religious norms."

Location :

Pangandaran is located in West Java Province, specifically in Pangandaran Regency, which is located on the southern coast of Java. This area borders the Indian Ocean and Cilacap Regency, Central Java.

The Area :

Pangandaran Regency covers an area of 1,011,040 hectares, with 67,340 hectares of sea. Pangandaran Regency has a coastline of 91 km.

Population :

The population by gender in 2024, females numbered 217,236 people and males numbered 216,868 people.

Tourism :

Pangandaran Regency's greatest potential lies in tourism, both coastal and river attractions. Many popular tourist attractions are popular with both international and domestic tourists. These include Pangandaran Beach, the Pananjung Nature Reserve, Batu Hiu Beach, Batu Karas Beach, Madasari Beach, Karapyak Beach, and river attractions such as Cukang Taneuh (Green Canyon), Citumang, and Santirah. A wide range of hotels, restaurants, and other entertainment venues are available.

Agriculture :

In addition to its tourism potential, Pangandaran Regency also boasts substantial agricultural potential. According to data from the Ciamis Regency Food Crops Agriculture Service, the area of rice fields in Ciamis Regency in 2012 was 51,903 hectares, with 26 percent of this area, or approximately 13,000 hectares, being irrigated and rain-fed.

Rice farming (rice paddies and fields) is a primary commodity in the agricultural sector. Ciamis Regency recorded 688,891 tons of rice production (rice paddies and fields) in 2012, of which 31 percent came from Pangandaran Regency, or 214,044 tons. Pangandaran Regency's secondary crops subsector also has considerable potential for growth, with production in the same year reaching 6,152 tons of corn, 11,300 tons of cassava, 2,520 tons of sweet potatoes, 752 tons of peanuts, 2,084 tons of soybeans, 725 tons of mung beans, and other commodities. Furthermore, horticultural commodities offer significant potential for development.

Fishing :

The area of fish cultivation in 2012 in Pangandaran Regency for ponds was 44 Ha, pools/ponds 339 Ha, rice fields 18.30 Ha. Viewed from the amount of fish production according to the place of cultivation/catching in Pangandaran Regency in 2012, namely marine fisheries 2,219.91 tons, ponds 687.8 tons, ponds 2,767.38 tons, rice fields 40 tons. While the value of marine fish production from fishermen's catches that entered the Fish Auction Place (TPI) in 2012 reached 2,220 tons with a value of 43.03 billion. A portrait of promising fisheries potential to be managed and able to improve the standard of living of the residents of Pangandaran Regency.

Farm :

The population of large and small livestock in Pangandaran Regency in 2012 was 26,807 cattle, 2,321 buffalo, 91 horses, 95,062 sheep, and 49,438 goats.

Forestry :

Ciamis Regency's forest area is spread across several Forest Management Units (BKPH/RPH), including Ciamis (Madati, Cikoneng, Panjalu, Kawali); North Banjar (Gadung, Bunter, Rancah); South Banjar (Pamarican, Cicapar, Banjarsari); Pangandaran (Kalipucang, Pangandaran, Cisaladah), and Cijulang (Parigi, Cigugur, Langkap). Both gazetted and unaffiliated forest areas cover 28,898.73 hectares. The Cijulang Forest Management Unit (PKPH/RPH) has the largest forest area, at 9,299.88 hectares, spread across the sub-districts of Cijulang, Parigi, Cigugur, and Langkaplancar. The largest forest area is located on Mount Gadung and Cigugur, covering 3,168.9 hectares. In addition to forests managed by PKPH/RPH, there are also 31,707.44 hectares of community forests spread across 36 sub-districts. The largest community forest is in Kalipucang Sub-district, covering 3,599 hectares.
